Teaching

“Education is the passport to the future,
for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”

Malcolm X

Teaching Philosophy

Learning Moments

Learning moments are encounters designed to utilize cognitive, affective and tactile approaches to guide students’ learning through relatable experiences, contemplative insights, and memorable impressions that are impactful to how they engage the learning content.

Universal Design Learning for Diversity and Inclusivity

Inclusive learning is designed to respond to students' learning needs and bring out the best of them from a diverse set of backgrounds, cultures, experiences and expectations. This is achieved through combining best practices in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with the latest teaching tools for inclusive and collaborative learning, along with cultivating a classroom environment that allows students to thrive through being who they are.

Interdisciplinary Approaches

Addressing contemporary challenges means learning cannot simply be confined to a single discipline or the classroom. Having trained in interdisciplinary approaches for pedagogical, andrological and heutagogical settings, I am invested in creating learners who are comfortable in traversing different strands of knowledge while possessing their unique capabilities in developing new solutions to address today's challenges for tomorrow's needs.

"Prof Wong's CC0003 class was quite the rollercoaster! Coming into class with a set of beliefs and ideas on how the world works, or rather should work, I was pleasantly surprised when some of my beliefs were unfounded. The discussions and debates opened up new ways for me to think about certain ethical dilemmas and I enjoyed the questions Prof Wong asked during the class. The social experiment (on human tendencies) that he designed during our final class was fascinating. Overall, Prof Wong's style of teaching and "learning through discussion" methodology was a lot of fun to be a part of. Thank you Prof and I strongly recommend your candidature as a lecturer and teacher!"

"The most friendly and approachable professor I know, George was one of the few tutors that really emphasized on creating a safe space that promotes respect, diplomacy, and participation. He understood the different approaches to learning that each student may have, and implemented that in his classes to create an environment that made me feel comfortable in voicing out my ideas and exchanging thoughts with my peers!"
Feline January,

"During my exchange semester at Singapore Management University, I was fortunate to attend Professor George's class on "Big Questions on Wealth and Poverty". As an exchange student, I always felt integrated in the class, both by the professor and my colleagues, and successfully expanded my horizons when learning more about the Singaporean and Southeast Asian history and political contexts. Classes with Professor George were always extremely interactive and insightful, and our personal opinions were never shut down but instead used as fuel for enriching discussions. I want to thank Professor George for this memorable academic experience, which I will take with me for life. I strongly recommend him as a lecturer, teacher and mentor!"

I had the honour of being taught by Prof George Wong for my Big Questions module and thoroughly enjoyed it! He engages the class by referencing real-world examples, and breaking down theories and concepts for his students to easily grasp the content. His classes are constantly filled with meaningful and interactive discussions, stimulating critical thinking among his students. Prof George goes above and beyond to care for his students and takes the time to answer any questions that his students might have. Great prof!

I had the great privilege to be taught by Prof George this semester for the module SOC205: Singapore Society at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). He offers refreshing insights and takes over a myriad of issues with differing perspectives, never constrained by one viewpoint alone. What adds more vibrancy to the classroom seminars is the pedagogy style he adopts whereby he allows and in fact encourages active discussions and debates to take place during lessons in order to liven the mood, complement our learning and to cater to a wider diversity of views to be heard. It was a great pleasure to be taught by him and I hope to look forward to him being my lecturer again for other modules in my subsequent semesters studying at SUSS.
